My daughter and her husband joined me and my two ginger cats for Christmas.  The cats enjoyed playing with the Christmas present papers and ribbons, but usually in a busy house and being full of extra food, they would be nowhere to be seen for most of the day.

On Boxing Day, after having had our fill of turkey, we decided to have a leg of lamb for lunch.  It was a large leg of lamb – a couple of meals and some sandwiches I thought.  I got up earlier in order to get it cooked for noon and I gave my two cats a hearty breakfast.  After a short spell in the garden, they both slithered off to their baskets in the lounge to sleep it off.

As we approached noon, my daughter set the dining room table, my son-in-law carved some slices off the leg of lamb and I put the cooked vegetables on the table.  In the dining room, we sat, pulled crackers, poured a glass of wine, served up the food and were just beginning to enjoy it all, when we realised their was a strange clicking-sort- of-noise coming from the kitchen.  On opening the kitchen door we could see two ginger bodies, up on the work surface bobbing up and down with relish, taking bites out of my leg of lamb!!  It spoiled our chances of seconds but we couldn’t be cross with them – not at Christmas!  It took the cats 4 days to finish off the lamb!

Story 1 sent in by Carol about her two cats Brandy and Champers

Four months ago we were told about a kitten that had been abandoned when a family decided they would leave their rented flat and didn't want their pet, after weeks of surviving on an estate and being shut out of peoples houses I went along with box and gave him a home - he is amazing and always seems grateful with 'gifts' almost daily.

On Christmas day I went downstairs to be greeted by a dead mouse at the bottom of the step, rather than wake up my husband I went about doing things (I am too squeamish to pick it up) when he came down I asked him if he had seen it, he jumped thinking he was going to step on it, unfortunately at this point it was behind him and he landed straight on it - squashing and squirting it! He freaked and was hopping on one leg, Diplodacus rather than running away starting playing with his foot - the scene was hilarious!!

Although Mr T is 15, this is his first Christmas with us, so we decided to spoil him. We always have stockings for the cats at Christmas, so he had one, too.

He loved all the fuss and attention - played madly with all his toys and ended up like an over-tired toddler, crashed out on the floor.

"Hooray" I thought " I will have a peaceful night without a little furry person waking me up" .... Hmmm!

At about 2.30am on Boxing Day morning I awoke to hear strange noises. Scraping noises. Scratching noises. People might be breaking in type noises ...:(

I was very glad that we live on the top floor of a block of flats, as it makes the burglar situation unlikely.

The noises persisted. Chloe and my other half slept happily through it. So it couldn’t be anything too scary, could it? Was it, maybe, a very large mouse? It was certainly a scrabbling, scuffling noise.  Plucking up courage, I grabbed my dressing gown and went to find out.

When I switched the living room light on, it looked as if a bomb had hit the place. Cat toys were strewn everywhere and the sofa cushions were every which way. But where was Mr T?

As I stood there, blinking sleepily, the rustling started again. Then two black ears appeared from the top of the waste paper bin.

Our kitty had decided to play with the thrown-away wrapping paper from the Christmas presents and had completely wrapped himself up in it. Only his tail and ears showed! It looked just as if someone had gift-wrapped me a slightly-used cat!

Once Id freed him from his wrappings, I took my "gift-cat" back to bed and we all had a good night's sleep.

Happy Christmas, Mr T!

Catnip Honeysuckle Bedding Dog Toys Toys Collars

My cat, Gizmo, got a cat toy on a string in his stocking for Christmas. He loved it.

Mistakenly we put the toy hanging from the front door handle. Needless to say, all the visitors had to go round the back as every time we knocked the toy, he wouldn't let anybody past because he was having so much fun trying to kill it! He was just like a kitten again.

We left our pet cat in the care of the neighbours whilst we went on holiday. Jasper had full rein of our house, and the neighbours. Apparently, he would scratch at their back door for food, then run in, run straight through the house, and miaow at the front door to be let out again. On our return, he was so cross with us, that he just wouldn't settle, wouldn't eat, and kept running in and out. Finally, after three days home, he has settled back down, and is now back to sleeping for long periods on the sofa- his sofa- woe betide anyone who sits on it whilst he is stretched out!!

I felt so awful leaving our cat Missy on Christmas day because we had only had her a few months and her previous home had been a very unhappy place to be! However i knew i couldn't take her with me to other peoples houses so we though she would be okay being left alone. We spent the morning making a big fuss of her and giving her lots of presents (spoilt little thing!) and then when it was time to go out to visit our relatives we put her toys and treats in a gift bag. We got home and couldn't find her at all, then as we searched the house we found that she has escaped into the main living room, where we found baubles and decorations all over the floor, a half eaten, ripped open bag of catnip treats scattered on the carpet and her Christmas bag fallen over with her head stuck right in it! The little missus had decided she wanted her presents and couldn't wait for us to get home and after eating lots of catnip had had a crazy time attacking the decorations and playing with her toys! To top it off, whilst we were left cleaning up the mayhem of toys, treats and destructions, the little madam had gone and made herself comfy on my new clothes and went to sleep! The little tinker!

Our pet dog Ben got rather excited on Christmas day when my sister was opening her present.

He didn't mind it wasn't for him he was going to claim it as his own anyway and tried dragging it across the floor as it was a bit too heavy for him to pick up.  We are still not sure exactly what use a Shaun the Sheep foot stall is to a dog but he seemed to like it.

Christmas 2008 was a very special milestone in the lives of ferals Miss Cissy (14) and her kids Smudger and ragamuffin who are 8 they spent their first Christmas on the inside in our home all tucked up in their new radiator beds.

These 3 ferals came from a colony who were being poisoned and in fact are the only surviving ones - their former carer asked us to take them as she didn't think most folks would want some dirty old ferals

We did and the look on their faces when fresh turkey came delivered on a saucer direct to their beds was one of complete and utter joy

Now all we have to do is get them to the vet for injections and ID Chips - hope they remember the turkey then!

Last year i turned 17 and my mum got me a kitten she was called midget, but in spring of this year she was ran over and she died. so ever since then i wanted another kitten. one day i went to work and the chef said that she had some kittens, so i went to see them when i got there their was loads of them. Garfield was the only ginger one and Winnie the only torter shell i wanted them both and my mum said i can. then i had to take them home and introduce them to the cat misty 14 years old and the dogs kia a 2 year old german shepherd, boxer 8 year old cross breed and dodger 5 year old jack russel cross. kia thinks that garfield is her baby and is always trying to sit on him, but she has nothing to do with winnie. Boxer keep him self to himself and dodger just wanted to play. misty was the worst hissing and smacking them every time they went past her. After i had them for a few weeks they had settled in, they were in my bedroom second floor and they were playing on the window which i forgot was open and winnie, garfields sister pushed him out of the window but he was ok.

My dad came to see me one day because they were playing on the hay bails while he was grabbing them with the tractor(cats mental)I am always getting told off for things that they have done, the worst thing they have even do is mainly every night they bring in a mouse but it is alive and they just let it go so it can run around the kitchen(ha ha)

A few weeks ago jenna my sister got out of the car and did not notice that winnie had all ready got in it. we never even noticed she had gone because they dont always come for food, the next day jenna went to the car and there winnie was asleep on the seat of the car.(she eat loads)

garfield just as bad he got locked in the tack room and the shed both in the same week. we have had some problems with garfield he has nose bleeds all the time we think he has allergies or a weak blood vessel.

the cats got to see snow for the first time this xmas and they loved it, they are always playing it most of the time they are falling over but never mind. we have a small christmas tree in the kitchen but all the kittens have taken all the icicles off it and i went in the other day and found out that there was 2 light bulbs missing and i have still not found then. thanks for reading my story

Our chocolate Labrador had a great time on Christmas Day. She opened all her presents and danced around the living room floor playing with the Christmas paper. We then went around my Mum and Dad's house. Straight away she took great pleasure in taking the Christmas baubles off my Mum's Christmas tree and enjoyed being chased by all the family. I managed to get the decorations out of her mouth just before she got a chance to crunch them. After a lovely long Christmas morning walk, she made a great fuss of all the guests and had her own bone while we ate Christmas dinner- she crashed out in front of the fire after a day of excitement and Labrador larks.

My cat Zodii is now 14 but on his first Christmas we were a little worried about how he would be with all the decorations and the Christmas tree as he had a habit of knocking over plants and plant pots.

He was really good all the way through Christmas with only a few minor infringement but one night we could hear a funny noise from around the Christmas tree.  We looked under the tree to find him happily ripping into his Christmas presents and trying to open the others too.

I think he thought that as he had been so good for so long he deserved a treat!!

Every year Korky is memorised by the flashing lights on our 8ft Christmas tree and will jump up at them.

This Christmas morning, as the children were opening their presents, Korky decided to jump up at the tree to 'catch' the flashing lights. However, the tree toppled over on top of my husband, who was drinking a mug of tea at the time. The accident left him with scalded legs and a sore head. Still, he must have forgiven Korky as he still received his Christmas Day dinner of giblets!

Whilst sitting down to Christmas dinner, we heard an almighty crash. I ran into the kitchen to find Lithium my little Lilac Burmese cat, trying to guard what was left of an 8 kilo turkey. Now she is quite a tiny girl at only 3.5 kilos, so this involved sitting on it & claiming it as hers with lots of comical posturing. It saved us from endless turkey sandwiches though & fed my 5 cats for nearly a week. She was far less impressed with the bath that was needed as the other cats kept trying to lick her clean!!!!

My border collie Meg loves to be part of the family and to join in with everything we do. I'd hidden a present for her under the tree amongst our presents and she went over to the tree and managed to find her own present and start opening it much to the amusement of all the family. She didn't try to open other presents just her own. She had a lovely day running around with her new toy showing everyone what she'd got. She's a star.

My 2 year old old son Charlie just loves our pets. Especially our 8 month old king charles puppy, Samba. He wrestles her and cuddles her and chases her around the house all day. She always lets him catch her and never flinches when he sits on her! On Christmas day Charlie decided that Samba would enjoy a ride in his new ride on digger. He dragged her into the front bucked and pushed the digger up and down the hallway for well over an hour. Every time she jumped out he retrieved her and got her straight back in. He only desisted when Tango our tabby cat decided she wanted to sit in the bucket instead but not while it was moving!

Millie is the newest addition to the family, she was found wandering the streets only a few weeks old and taken to our local blue cross centre. Because she had to fend for herself she has the habit of running off with things and hiding them. So as kittens do, she decided that she should attack the Christmas tree, steal the baubles and hide them under the sofa (I’m still finding rogue baubles around the house)and then came the killer turkey. She tried to haul the whole turkey from the dinner table, along with the brussel sprouts, table cloth and the christmas pudding. Our older cat Gnasher just sat in the background rolling his eyes- much like I do when my younger brother is up to no good. Rather entertaining for me, a bit stressful for my mum trying to save said christmas dinner. But I think its safe to say Millie enjoyed her first Christmas. Although she seems to have destroyed all of her and Gnashers Christmas toys. I think she will be quite a hunter as she gets bigger.

This is usually the signal that the other dog has done something and she is worried she will get the blame, but I knew Mindy was in the living room asleep.

I went into the kitchen to investigate and discovered that our free range guinea pig was happily sitting in Boodle's bed attempting to gnaw on her chew! I have never known a dog be bullied by a guinea pig before!

Kitty's favourite toy this year was a little ball of green tinsel which she kept throwing up into the air with her paw's. Every once in a while she would pick the ball up in her teeth and run to a different part of the house. At about 2 a.m. on boxing day morning I was awoken by a scrabbling sound on the landing, and assumed the cat was playing with her ball of tinsel; after about 20 minutes of trying to get back to sleep I got out of bed and opened my bedroom door with the intention of confiscating the toy until day time; in the dark I could see the cat trotting towards me with what I assumed was her toy in her mouth, so I quickly bent down and grabbed it, but to my horror the ball started twitching causing me to throw it on the floor, I quickly put the light on and saw that it was a huge spider. We usually only get big spiders in the summer, so where she found it we will never know.

Story 53 sent in by Sarah about her cats Bramble, Dukie Boy and Gomez

I have four cats but one had gone missing for quite some time, Billy. I called him for ages knowing he is never far away but nothing. I started to worry thinking he could be stuck somewhere so as it was getting past lunch time I decided to go and have a look out the front of the house.

Long story short - I was calling him as I was walking up and down my road when my neighbour came out with my cat Billy swiftly racing past her legs out of her front door. Neighbour told me that she had opened her kitchen window to let some steam out and air the room and apparently Billy had jumped through the window and started eating their turkey!!

Luckily she thought it was really funny but I was mortified and couldn't stop apologising to her. Lets just say, Billy wasn't interested in his cat food when he got back home!

My dog has a liking for cheese, as we would reward her with it for good behaviour. We were at my mums, just finishing Christmas tea, when Pickle walked into the room very slowly carrying something in her mouth. We were embarrassed to find it was a whole pound of Cheddar she had stolen from the work top!

Our pug dog Crystal is crazy! On Christmas day she was so excited by all the presents that when we let her outside for a wee she forgot we had closed the patio door and ran straight into it on her way back! Her already squashed face was pushed right up against the glass, following her falling over onto her back and not being able to get up - my daughter was in stitches laughing!

The winning story with a massive 23 votes is story number 25 sent in by Emma about her cat Korky.  Korky will be receiving a Peacock Feather cat toy soon!

Here is your winning story....
